The first Colbert Report Political Rorschach Test was completed on July 4th. The polls have been reset and are scheduled to close again at the end of the month. The study upon which the Colbert-Rorschach test is based found that:
Conservatives not only processed the messages as targeting liberals, but also processed the source as being conservative, Republican and disliking liberals. By contrast, liberals perceived Colbert as just kidding and did not perceive the source as conservative, Republican, or disliking liberals. ("The Irony of Satire," p. 225.)
Though the sample was small (there were just under 150 votes logged in the polls), and was dominated by liberal respondents, the results of the first round of the Colbert Rorschach Test roughly correspond to the findings of the study. Of those respondents who perceived Colbert as conservative, Republican and disliking liberals, 75% stated that they are conservative. Of those who did not perceive Colbert as conservative, Republican and disliking liberals, just under 75% stated that they are liberal. Thanks to all who participated in the first Colbert Report Political Rorschach Test!
